Smack your lips sweet!

“Weddings were so closely intertwined with spirits in England in the Middle Ages that wedding feasts were called bride-ales, which gave rise to the word bridal. At bride ales, the drinking of beer could go on for days…”(The Wedding Book - The Big Book For Your Big Day - Mindy Weiss & Lisbeth Levine). WOW - who would have thought the word bridal originated from bride and beer?! Ohhhh the beverage decisions to be made!

…water, lemonade, strawberry lemonade, sweet tea, and peach tea. I’m a bride on a budget - literally a girl with “couture cocktail taste” on a beer budget… What options does a girl watching her dollars do?

First, we have those that really hope to have alcoholic beverages so Jonnathan and I headed to Widmer Brother’s Brewery in beautiful downtown Portland and did some taste testing and found two we really enjoyed.  My personal fav is Drifter Pale Ale, with a unique crisp, clean citrus character; perfect for quenching your thirst on a hot summer evening. I’m on a “citrus” theme for the wedding (see bridesmaid dresses) - I know I know… but for reals, people really do enjoy citrus beverages on hot days.  We’ll also offer wine.  I hope this isn’t tacky, but we’re really thinking of going with Trader Joes “Two Buck Chuck” - If you don’t know about “Two Buck Chuck” - it’s great wine for right around two bucks!  I know!!! We’ll make our own adorable labels to go over the Trader Joe Labels. Meanwhile, WHAT ABOUT UNDERAGE GUESTS AND THOSE WHO PREFER NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES? “Signature Lemonade and Sweet Tea!”
